Day#82

I just completed all of my homework, now I’m about to relax until work. Working is definitely not a joke, but I am getting use to it, today Wednesday and Thursday I work 6-10 p.m, these are going to be some long days! Other then that today in avid class we had a discussion on, "do you need to be smart in order to become successful in life?" my opinion is no you don’t have to be smart, in order for you to be successful, you have to have the drive and passion. There are plenty of people that aren’t "Smarting", however they knew how to use their talents, and their drive to push them to where they want to be.

Day#81

So today was a cool day I guess, didn’t really have any work, to complete in class, just when of them days all I had to complete was notes and not to mention I watched a movie in one of my classes. Also. Other then my blog only homework I have that’s due tomorrow or Wednesday is...well none is due, therefore tonight I am going to get an early start on my AP Human Geo Project that’s due Friday. Maybe I can even finish the entire project tonight.

Day#80

So I received a package from Delaware state university (a school I applied to, and my second choice out of five), and in the package it's an acceptance letter! Being excited wasn’t the word for the way I was feeling, my hard work had finally paid off, and a college accepted me. Now i am just waiting on for the rest of my acceptance letters, the school I’m waiting for the most is from North Carolina A&T.

Day#79

Other then relaxing from school on my thanksgiving break all I’ve been doing is work, work, work, and work. I have been working major hours especially since of black Friday and I work in retail. Sometimes I don’t even want to go, however I wanted a job, therefore I am going to deal with it. Not to mention I like the money that’s included, lol.

My final food rag, time has really pasted, I remember my first food rag in the 9th grade now I am in the 12th grade and about to be on the way to an institution of my choice.  Other wise I had a terrific time with my Avid family, everyone brought and shared a different, not to mention the food was delicious! I am going to really miss my AVID 12 family; hopefully after school we can all meet up and have an event similar to this again.

Yesterday’s day was all about relaxation, I had no homework to complete, and my entire test was on that current day. Therefore I caught on some rest, knowing that I had a full day today as well as work later on the afternoon.

So today during class we watched a video about 3 high school students who were seniors and their plans after high school. Each one of the individuals had over a 4.0 and was applying to elite universities including: Brown, Duke, Stanford, Georgetown, and many more. They all seemed like they had a plan that will lead them to a successful college career, and that's what I’m working on now. Of Course as you can see above North Carolina A&T is my #1 choice, that all fine and dandy, however I need money! scholarships need to get filled out; however finding out if I’m accepted will allow scholarship searches to become easier. I guess it's just a waiting game now, application is sent out, just seeing if I will be accepted.

Day#74

After recently receiving mail from Stevenson University, my first thought was to not even open the package because I’m not even interested in the school, however I did anyways. To be truthful I'm glad I opened the mail because they are offering me $5,000 a year, and in state tuition is $23,000. Even though I'm not interested in Stevenson their offering me free money, therefore I think I am going to put them on my college application list.

Day#73

I have no idea what to blog about today, just seemed like a regular day. Only thing that happened today was getting my braces tightened, and that hurts so that is definitely not an event that is worth talking about, and raking the leaves. I’m just thankful to be wake up and see another day because no day is promised.

Day# 72

So today I received my first pay check, yes I said it, my first pay check! I, Jasean Fowlkes worked at my job, and made my own money, my mom and dad had nothing to do with the money I received today. It feels good to show yourself and others that you have a side of independence and that you can make money on your own. I get paid weekly too; yes I’m definitely going to enjoy this job.

Day#71

If anyone ever tells you that Philadelphia produces the best cheese steaks, you should believe them they are definitely right! On the way back to the hotel from the Black College Expo me and my dad made it a mission to stop and pick up a chicken cheese steak for dinner. Other then my delicious dinner, today I also attended he Black College expo, since I missed the one at the university of Maryland. I guess I can say things went well, I obtained a myriad amount of information about a variety of institutions, only thing is every school I wanted to apply to didn’t do admission on sight, everything is online now. I was kind of upset, however since I only have one more application to send out I’m way ahead of the game, I just have to be patient and wait for my acceptant letters. I see this as a minor setback for a major come up.

Day#70

After finally completing 4 out of my 5 applications for college, I feel so much pressure lifted off of my shoulders. So far I applied to; North Carolina A&T, Morgan State, Delaware state and Clark Atlanta. My final application for University of Maryland college park will be sent off before thanksgiving, since there are two essays do for that college I did one, just have to finish the following one. Whew, getting ready for college is hard work, at least when it’s all completed, I will look back and say, "Yes I did it."

Day #69

My Food RAG for my avid 12th grade year is finally complete, well the rough draft is. It’s crazy that I remember the first food rag I completed, the food my writing was about was sweet potatoes pie. It felt just like yesterday I gave my 9th grade presentation, I was so shy lol. Now I’m not the loudest person in the room, however I speak up more, just had to gain more confidence in myself I guess.

Day#68

Received a 95% on a paper I wrote for my engineer and tech class. Why am I happy? For the reason that writing is definitely not my strongest aspect when it comes to school work, however my writing has improved tremendously. I'm still far from reaching my full potential as an excellent writer; I just have to keep prating, which means keep on writing.

Day#67

Today was my third day on the job as an official Marshall’s employee. Working from 12-4 p.m seemed like an eternity. Its all cool though, soon I am going to get myself in a flow and eventually work will become just as regular as school.

Day#66

Just finished completing two packets for AP English 12. Although, I completed my homework I need to stop missing school because then I get stuck with an abundant amount of work.

Day#65

Last night's football game was incredibly live. There were so many people there to cheer on New Town for our first varsity play off win against North West. It was so cold, however it was worth sitting in the freezing cold because the New Town titans came up with the win, the score was 40-12.

Day#64

Getting ready for my first day at work, yes I finally have a job of my own job! I am kind of nervous though, I don’t know my position yet in the store, all I know it’s my first day of training. My hours are from 6-10, hope everything goes well today, everyone wish me luck.

Day#63

Since I’m not in school today because of not feeling at well, other than nursing myself to 100%, imam also try to at least get one scholarship done today. Free money would do me and my parents well when it comes to getting into the college of my choice. Starting today my goal is to complete one scholarship a week.

Day#62

As soon as I arrived home from school, my bed was my best friend. Feeling horrible yesterday, me symptoms included; sore throat, headache, a cold and etc, this was probably one of my longest days ever. When I finally got home I took some medicine and fell asleep, my dad was only reason I got up again and that was to take more medicine and eat.

Day#61

After watching "Thank God it's Monday", the three points I took from it was to see your job(AVID) as a blessing, basically meaning to see your job in a positive way. Throw away your Toys-R-Us card, meaning to stop whining and complaining all the time and just give 120% in any and everything you do. Last but not least when thing dont go your way, dont expect change, be a change.

Day #60

Today is homework day. I don’t even know where to start, most likely I will complete reading the book for AVID, followed by my E.P.I homework. At least all my homework is quite easy, therefore later on in the afternoon getting ready for tomorrow is only thing that will be on my mind.

Day #59

Homecoming was too chills, I had fun and seem like others did to. Everywhere you looked, everyone one was dancing, and the do was actually decent last night, he kept the party going. Being that it was my last football homecoming dance I had to make it fun, just being around my friends made the night even better.

Day#58

Today I walked to mall today to purchase some more khaki’s for work. I’m glad the mall is basically right around the corner because it was extremely cold today. Not having the car today couldnt be used as an excuse, therefore i had to do what i had to do, and that was walk.

Day#57

Just got home from orientation for my job at Marshall’s, it was chills however my boss talks so much, orientation lasted for about 3 and a half to 4 hours, and was only scheduled for a hour! Other than that I’m excited about working, making my own money is a major accomplishment for myself. No more asking my parents for money.

Day#56

My essay for college; as you can see it’s all marked up by Mr. Carney. He said for the most part it's done pretty well; I just have to add more detail, which will allow me to convey my point better to the college I plan on attending. Constructive criticism is the way to go; I know Mr. Carney only wants the best for me, now I just have to do my part and work on my essay.

Day#55

Other then eating when I first arrived home, and completing this blog at the time, my bed was the location I spent predominantly my time in. I have no idea why I’m so tired; feels like my nap just did nothing to benefit me, exhausted is not the word I’m feeling right about now. I guess being able to not sleep very well, was a sign for me to get up and complete my homework. Only bad thing about my nap is I won’t be able to sleep at night now, o well more time for me to fully complete all homework, even homework due on Thursday.
